RUNNING
The
avid runner knows what he's doing, where he is
going and what his goals are. He is running for
his health and the proper mental state that
exercise can contribute too.
This is not
the reason why many of us run. Many of us run
in an attempt to retreat from our problems,
conflicts or less than comfortable consequences
to our actions. We think that if we can only
put off a little longer what is inevitable, that
somehow God will reach down and rescue us from
our circumstances. The problem with this
philosophy is that it never turns out that way,
and deep down we know that to be true.
When we
choose to run instead of deal with the
challenges of life, -- When we hide out and
pretend that the problem will somehow go away,
we only serve to feed it and it always grows to
gigantic proportions. It never lessons or
becomes more palatable.
So why do we
run? Why do we avoid our responsibilities?
There are several reasons, such as
embarrassment, shame and fear, but at the root
of "Running" is the ever most powerful "Self
Obsession”. We run because we know that if we
stop running our responsibilities will catch up
with us and we will be faced with what we must
do in order to stop the insanity. An insanity
that might be more comfortable to live in than
to be delivered from.
We know that
if we stop running and face the music, that we
will have to relinquish control, and being the
control freaks that we are, giving it up scares
us to death, and many times we don't even know
it.
Running away
doesn't remove the problem. Running away only
exercises our self-obsession to be what " we"
think we have the right to be, or act. The
truth is none of us has a right to anything.
Any good thing that comes our way is a gift of
grace from our creator, not because we have a
right to it. But God loves us so much that if
we'll just stop the running, and accept
responsibility for our actions, he is faithful
to bring us through the struggle and bless us
with his love, guidance, and prosperity of
serenity.

If today I find myself
with the temptation to run from my problems, I
will try looking at them as Challenges and
Opportunities. I will ask myself.... Have I
really ever known anyone who accomplished anything
by running?
It is important to note
that running isn't always wrong as long as I'm
running towards healthy decisions, and goals,
instead of running from the fear of
responsibility.
