A message from the Recovery Times Publisher

Trust God, Love People

How often I hear in meetings how we can not trust one another. In fact just the other day I listened to 3 folks share how they had been in their perspective 12 Step fellowships for over 15 years and they still found it very difficult to trust anyone. Their sorrowful stories were filled with bitterness towards the human race because of how many people close to them had mistreated or violated their trust. They felt it futile to open up to anyone ever again. Trusting another was indeed out of the question.

To this may I suggest that our creator never called us to trust his people but to trust Him and love his people. We are all his children, His kids and there are no grandkids in the family of God. We are all just as important and as well loved as the other.

Just because man has turned his back on one another and has acted like a little spoiled brat doesn’t mean that we should stop trusting God.

Keith Green a well know Christian Contemporary artist of the 60’s and 70’s said it best. “If you’ve been burned, Here’s what I’ve learned, The Lords not the one to blame.

Unless you are some form of deity you probably have hurt someone deeply at one time or another. It is certainly a fact that you have been hurt and the pain the violation brought may have been so unbearable that you felt with all conviction you would not possibly be able to trust anyone ever again. Don’t fret, You don’t have to. Simply trust God and love people. Stop putting expectations on each other and remember you and I are completely powerless over other peoples choices.

Yes we can influences how other people choose their path and in fact it would be irresponsible of us to think otherwise but the final choice a man or women make in any circumstance is ultimately their own.

If another’s choice brings hurt to your doorstep it will probably be impossible to avoid it all together. After all we are all created in God’s image and God hurts when his children hurt. That’s an attribute of love. The secret here is not to avoid the pain but not to camp out there.

When we trust the creator we learn how to love each other and that is what we are truly called to do.

This week I will put my trust in my Higher Power. I will recognize that even God is going to let his children make ridiculous choices. Choices that may cause some of us pain. But as I experience the pain of living life on life’s terms I will lean not on my own understanding but trust God for I can always expect Him to have my best interest at the center of his being. When a person offense I will thank my Higher Power that I am not expected to trust the frailties of man but to trust the trustworthiness of God for he will never leave us nor forsake us. In that I may always trust.

Until next week this is Monty-man wishing….. Serenity For You.
